Lapland winters are crisp and beautiful, and unforgiving if you've underpacked. The trick is layers, the right accessories, and knowing when to step inside and warm up. If buying a full arctic kit for one trip makes no sense, rent winter clothing from us instead: proper boots, mittens and an insulated overall, sized and waiting when you land.
Dress in layers

Decide which season fits you
Winter delivers the snowy landscapes, Northern Lights, husky safaris, and the cold plunge after a steaming sauna. Spring keeps the snow but adds daylight and milder temperatures. Summer trades snow for the midnight sun and long hikes through pristine forest. Autumn brings cheaper prices and the brief blaze of orange before winter sets in. We're partial to April and June, both shoulder seasons with stunning light and far fewer crowds.
Whichever season you land in, book the experiences before you fly. Small groups sell out weeks ahead in December and March, and the trips that are still available at the last minute are rarely the ones you came for.
Getting here
Rovaniemi is reachable by plane, train, bus, or car. The night train from Helsinki is an experience in itself and easily the most sustainable option, you'll see far more of Finland on the way than you would from a plane window. Book trains through VR and buses through Matkahuolto.
