About this experience
Board the historic Aurora Train for an evening journey from Rovaniemi to Kemijärvi and back, through snowy wilderness that no road reaches.
The train is full of Christmas spirit: warm juice and gingerbread on board, acrobatic elves in the carriages and Santa Claus himself joining the journey. In Kemijärvi you step out into the Arctic night for a fire show, and with a little luck the Northern Lights will dance overhead.

Aurora Train. Enjoy the full festive programme in both directions.
Aurora Train Mystery: The Northern Lights Thief. Add a team mystery game to your journey. Someone has stolen the Northern Lights, and on one leg of the journey your group moves into the Mystery Carriage to find the thief, using star maps, coordinates and coded aurora colors. On the other leg you enjoy the same festive programme as everyone else. You choose the leg when you book.
Both options suit all ages. The mystery is exciting but never scary.
Program
Pickups & Boarding the Aurora Train
Optional pickup from selected accommodations, or meet us at Rovaniemi railway station 30 minutes before departure. A cosy atmosphere, festive decorations and our crew welcome you on board.
With the Mystery option: you receive a detective badge and your team's case kit, and learn that the Northern Lights have been stolen.
Journey Through the Lapland Wilderness
The 90-minute ride runs through forest and fell landscape. The conductor checks tickets in classic old-fashioned style, warm juice and gingerbread are served, and acrobatic elves perform in the carriages.
With the Mystery option, if you chose this leg: your group moves into the Mystery Carriage. In small teams you decode star maps, follow coordinates and uncover clues to find out who the Northern Lights Thief is.
Arctic Stop in Kemijärvi
Almost an hour outdoors in the snowy Arctic night: a fire show, snowball throwing competitions for children, and the best chance of the evening to spot the Northern Lights.
Journey back to Rovaniemi
The festive programme continues on the way back, with the trolley selling snacks and drinks.
With the Mystery option, if you chose this leg: your group now takes over the Mystery Carriage. If you played on the way out, sit back and enjoy the ride.
Santa Claus Boards the Train
During a short stop at Misi station, Santa Claus steps on board and visits the carriages, so everyone can meet him and take photos together.
Return to Rovaniemi
The train arrives back in Rovaniemi at 19:24 (afternoon departure) or 00:01 (evening departure) and the transportations back to selected accommodations begin. With the Mystery option: by now the thief has been unmasked and the stolen light returned to the sky.
