In Rovaniemi the sun stays above the horizon around the clock from roughly 6 June to 7 July. - Visit a working reindeer farm. The herders are around in summer too, and the calves are out.
- Cook over an open fire. Grill sausages in a lakeside kota after a late walk, the way locals spend a summer evening.
These run on Finnish tradition and the rhythm of the season, not on a stage built for tourists. Come in summer and you see the Lapland that locals love most.
What to Pack
Summer is mild, not hot. Bring layers for cool evenings, a light rain jacket, walking shoes, and insect repellent, since mosquitoes are out in force in the forest from late June. An eye mask helps you sleep through the bright nights.
